Just swap the hose, which should be the same directions as the owner's manual as well. Make sure though... Normally the outside of the body of the regulator will have the jet sizes marked in marker on there. LP has a higher BTU content, so it requires a smaller jet size.

changed hose connector to the smaller jet side . its not surging but is popping out the exhaust like a car sound with water in the gas. i checked plugs, dist cap ,rotor and firing order all look good. any suggestions?

not sure the last tech who worked on it adjusted the fuel regulator to get the smoothest run. could i adjust it in or out while its running to see if that helps if so which direction and how many turns to get closer to the sweet spot

That regulator is not adjustable, the jet just gets installed and put back together.

You need a manometer to measure gas pressure. Don't just adjust it around without knowing where it really is. The LP company would probably come out and test it for you.

put a manometer and adjusted lp regulator under load around 10 in water column ran best. is it normal for a burst of smoke to come out just for about 2 seconds when engine fires up
is this a characteristic of lp for fuel?

The color of the smoke helps tell the story. White or blue/white smoke is oil burning in the cylinder or exhaust, black smoke is excess fuel.
