Today I replace the engine on my 20kw Guardian. Upon removing the Stator I broke an electrical piece that I do not know what it is. I think it may be some kind of magnetic speed sensor. It was bolted to the carrier assembly right behind the exhaust fan. It has 2 wires running to it, blue wire and black wire. Has two pieces of metal that spring back if you push on them.

That's the brush assembly. Is the plastic holder black or grey?

That's not a sensor, but the brush assembly.

You can buy it here: https://shop.gentekpower.com/products/g ... generators

What does this part do? Would the part still function if I broke off one of those metal peices?

No, it's what induces DC voltage into the rotor to make voltage in the stator. Without it, the unit won't produce output voltage. If you attempt to put it together damaged, you could ruin the rotor's slip rings...
