I have a Generac/B&S Power Boss 5500 Generator. I needed to use it this past week and when I cranked it up it output over 300 volts. I've researched on the internet and have found only the users manual. No repair information. The owners manual shows an exploded view but I find no reference to a voltage regulator in the view. I found that newer Generacs have an AVR (automatic Voltage Regulator) that can be changed to remedy the over voltage situation, but nothing for this model.

It is model 01642 Rev 1.

If anyone has any knowledge about this model, I would appreciate a direction I might follow that might renew this generator to full function.

Thanks in advance.

It looks to me like the first two items on that page should help a little.

Can you start a new topic and add some info about the model and serial number, so that we know what you have?

I have a Generc Primepact 66LP generator that has no power output. Engine runs fine circuit breakers are OK . I started it up a few days ago and the unit provided power, Then while on a trip it would not power up the AC side at all. After checking all the obvious problems I have a question about the led light on the EVR. My first thought was that the slip rings needed cleaning and so I did that. What is the function of the led light and it does not stay light after engine starts and runs. Before we left home in the RV I ran the unit and it provided voltage through the transfer switch to the power distribution panel. Any suggestions on a possible problem?

Not familiar with that specific unit, but leds on avr remain lit if unit is functioning. Let me see if i can find my manual for those older units. They dont have much info avail on them as i recall. Only manual i can find is this one, and it doesnt seem to cover your unit
