Hi there
I have a standby generator that has and continues to run fine. I recently was told from my electrician is that it's running a higher voltage than usual. It was around 280-290, as opposed to 240 (his recommendation). I have lived in this house for a year now and wondering if this is bad thing or it should be corrected with a voltage regulator or something?

Thanks
Brad

240 is not his recommendation, it is the standard. 280-290 is grossly over voltage and will damage something in your house, probably something expensive. Get it fixed and do not run it again until fixed.

Sounds to me like a bad voltage regulator or something to do with the sensing input into the regulator.

thanks for this. are you able to recommend what type of voltage regulator is ideal for this generator?

Well, we really don't have any information about what the unit is as far as a model goes? I'm not a Briggs dealer, so I'd just be looking up a manual for it to see what the part should be.

To arrive, or to install?

Would depend on where it's installed... If it's easy to access, fairly quick. If it sucks to access, then you will have to be the judge haha!

You'll need a quality meter to set up the output once you install it. If the unit has a mechanical governor, that must be correctly setup before the AVR is adjusted.
