I took the starter off and checked the teeth on the flywheel. they are in place and I misplaced the wires on the starter when I re-installed it. I pulled the cranking battery off of my boat and tried to crank the generator and have the same issue. This battery has no problem cranking my 200hp outboard. I even put it on my charger and made sure that it was at 100 percent. The tech at auto zone checked the starter and the gear engaged on their bench. Puzzled by this.

Well, fortunately there's not much to this system as far as starting... Basically you have the battery, cables, starter solenoid, and the starter. Start at the beginning and work your way forward. What you really need is a battery load tester like this one: https://amzn.to/2rnZwrv
It will allow you to put a load on the battery, cables, etc, to see if you have a voltage drop problem.

You can also use a quality meter to measure DC voltage drop over a cable or the starter solenoid.

Hi Sandy, Yes I figured out what the issue was. I'll take a picture of the starter correctly wired and post it.

Did you ever figure out why you were getting low and inspect battery alarms on your nexus controller? I am having the same issue with mine. I have cleaned allm of my connections and changed to different batteries. I even tried to start the generator with my charger set to the engine start position and never got contact to the starter. I hear absolutely nothing. What wires were wrong on your starter? My unit was purchased in 2012.

I haven't figured it out yet. Going to dive back into it in the morning. Do any of you know what the starter and solenoid part numbers cross reference to from an auto parts store? I know that the engine is a 2.4 L Mitsubishi. Going to just change some parts and see what happens.

This should be the starter you need. You may not find it at an auto parts store though... Note the spacer information listed there as well. I deal with Generac OEM parts, so this would be a factory part.

Any idea on the solenoid or will any 12volt work?

Do you mean the starter solenoid mounted on the back of the control panel, or the one actually on the starter? That starter I sent you includes the starter-mounted solenoid. If you're talking about the panel mounted starter solenoid, that is here: https://shop.gentekpower.com/products/g ... generators
