Good afternoon,

I have a 17kw generac unit that is surging. I've replaced the main mother board and the motor stepper assembly but there is no change. What else could be causing this surging? Thank you for your help!

Can you post some info about the generator? Model/serial would be the most helpful.

Thank you for the reply! The generator is a Guardian 17kw unit. Model number is 0055230, and the serial number is 5132203.

These older units weren't really known for surging, so that makes me think fuel problem, or possibly a bad ignition coil sending a weird RPM signal to the controller.

Can you test the fuel pressure?

Model 0055040 SN 5026821 17kw LP .
IT ran for 4 hours during a storm and started surging everything was going
on and off I assumed I was out of LP .but the tank was nearly full and I
checked pressure to the low pressure regulator outside the generator.
It started to rain so I left . I really am not sure where to go, last
night it stopped with over crank , but today when I was checking pressure
it said over speed , I recently replaced the fuel regulator the old one
looked bad and I changed inlet hose to 3/4” the stepper motor is only a few
years old
I will check fittings tomorrow make sure nothing inside looks loose at the
regulator, I did check the air filter ,,
