I took a reading on spade 4 on the AVR when starting and all I get is 5 volts if I read right it should be a minimum of 8 so I’d the field excitation kit going to fix this problem gone voltage

If you want to test my theory, you can quickly bump the 4 wire with 12V from the battery while cranking and it should take off on its own and continue running and making voltage. Just don't leave the 12V wire connected for very long... Couple seconds tops.

Not sure if this matter or not but I took a reading on #4 wire on AVR and I only get 5 volts at start up

So leave the 4 wire connected to do this or disconnect it and then reattach it after

Leave it connected. You'll be simulating what the PCB is doing by flashing the field at startup.

Thank you so much for the info. I’m not questioning your knowledge I’m just trying to learn at the same time. I will try it and then go figure there

I'm guessing that the regulator will light up and the unit will run normally until the next time it's shut down. These do not have magnetic type induced fields, so they require a 'field boost' each time they start.
