Generac 18kw Air-Cooled Generator: Model # G0072289, Serial # 3009330794
Generac SE Rated 200 amp Transfer Switch: Model # 10000011659, Serial # 3009343016
Fuel Supply: Natural Gas. 1" diameter pipe. 7' run from meter to generator.
Installed Nov, 2022 (new install)

When the generator goes into low speed exercise mode the transfer switch moves to generator source and does not switch back to utility when it shuts off, leaving the residence without power until I manually return the carrier arm to utility.
When I run functional tests everything work as it should with the exception of returning to utility once power is restored.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You
S

It should NOT transfer when in exercise mode period. You may have either a control wire issue or a controller issue. How does it react to a simulated power outage, you know, shutting off the main breaker.

Hello,
When turning off the breaker at the ATS, the generator fires up and runs smoothly, the transfer switch moves automatically to the down position - allowing the generator
to power all breakers in the panel. When the breaker is turned back on and utility is present- the generator runs in cool down mode and turns off, but the transfer switch does not automatically switch back up to the upper coil. I have had to engage it manually to restore power to the residence. Which, as you can imagine, is a bummer when I am not there for a couple of days.

Thank you for your reply!

well, your going to have to do quite a bit of testing then. you could have a defective SACM module or a bad controller. you could also have a bad utility coil or a wire is not making contact with the utility coil. can you post pics of the insides of your transfer switch so i could see wiring. also, pics of inside generator wiring compartment would be nice. is there any junction boxes between generator and transfer switch?

Thanks. I will be on site tomorrow and take photos. There are no additional junctions within the install- just the Metered 200 amp panel, Transfer Switch and Generator.
Thank you!
