I have a Generac RS5500 (Model G0066720) that has a completely hosed fuel tank. I've started it for the last 4 years and usually starts on first to third pull. This year was very different.
When I went to add gas, the gas cap was rusty looking and the inside of the tank was covered with corrosion. Is there a way to clean this out of the tank? Or, if I purchase a After-market tank from Amazon (Say "Samger 5 or 7 Gallons Generator Gas Fuel Tank with Valve Petcock Filter") can it be mounted on the RS5500. Only difference between the tanks is the original has an additional hose coming off the top of the tank to the air filter cavity (would I need to have that on the replacement?) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Probably caused by ethanol fuel……that junk loves to absorb water. Cant help with replacement…..thats beyond my pay scale.

Yep, you're probably right. I guess I should have added that to my description of the issue. But still looking for suggestions. Thanks?

I'm not sure if there's something to remove that corrosion or not. Rust is a foul beast! That hose you're talking about is likely just the tank vent which brings the fumes back to the air intake. A tank would need some type of vent to work properly.
