I am trying to remove the carburetor to clean it and can’t for the life of me figure out how to remove a linkage at the very top before I slide out the carb. I have the very small spring next to the thicker rod off but the rod is my problem.

Can you post a picture of what you have going on? Honda generators aren't my specialty, but most carbs have the same styles of linkage.

If I recall correctly you slide the carb off the studs with the linkage still connected and then tip it to get it past the zigzag part.
