Generator Brand suggestions

I'm in need of a new generator as my old one has stopped working. Can anyone suggest a good brand that they have had good experiences with? I'm looking for something that is reliable, easy to use, and not too expensive. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

What did you have before, and was it portable or permanently connected? Usually it's best to stick with a single brand if you intend to keep the transfer switch, since most brands don't work with each other.
